       Hengdong, lying in the southeast of Hunan Province, formerly belonged to the domain of Hengshan County. Hengdong was separated from Hengshan in March,1966 and was named after the most beautiful one of the five Mountains, Nanyue Hengshan Mountain, because she is situated east of the Mountain.( “east” in Chinese means :dong:) The area of the county is 1926 square kilometers. Of the whole area, sixty percent is mountain forest, ten percent, water; twenty percent farmland and the last ten percent roads and manors. The county now has 510,000 mu of cultivated land, a population of 630,000 and 24 townships under her jurisdiction. Hengdong, with abundant rainfall, a temperate climate and rich natural resources, is a good place for agriculture and industry. The Xiangjiang River and the Mi River wind through the county, supplying a great deal of waterpower sources. The structure of the land is very complicated with magma here and there under the ground, the county is rich in mineral deposit.
